J’ai vu aujourd’hui un film québécois qui me faisait bien envie, après avoir lu un peu partout des articles dithyrambiques : Le Monde, Libération, Télérama.
Ce film s’intitule « Les amours imaginaires » et a été réalisé par un très jeune cinéaste de 22 ans, Xavier Dolan. Ce jeune homme est si précoce qu’il a déjà présenté l’année dernière un autre film « J’ai tué ma mère », déjà salué au festival de Cannes.
Je suis déçu, intrigué et exaspéré par le film que j’ai vu aujourd’hui. La critique est en extase et, pourtant, il y aurait tant à redire à propos de ces 90 minutes de cinéma. L’histoire tient sur un « post-it ». Ce n’est pas un défaut. Beaucoup de grands films reposent sur des scénarios succincts. Il s’agit d’un triangle amoureux : deux amis, un garçon et une fille, sont amoureux chacun à leur façon d’un garçon insaisissable et d’une beauté inaccessible. Ça se termine mal, forcément. Pas pour le joli garçon, mais pour les deux autres.
Seulement voilà, partant de ce postulat, le réalisateur Xavier Dolan (également acteur de son film) nous propose une œuvre maniérée, photographiquement élaborée, mais un peu vide de substance.
C’est agréable à regarder, comme un catalogue de mode car ce petit monde est esthétiquement magnifique. Mais l’ensemble est éthéré, à l’image de ces ralentis incessants qui soulignent inutilement les moments « forts » d’une intrigue bien molle.
Ces garçons et ces filles, habillés très tendance et babillant avec un accent québécois délicieux (sous-titré pour les passages les plus obscurs) ne sont pas une mauvaise compagnie. Mais, au bout d’un certain temps (disons à la moitié du film), on commence à s’ennuyer ferme.
Si j’étais cruel, je dirais que « Les amours imaginaires » pourrait être un film français. Mais ce serait trop sévère. C’est quand même moins nul qu’un film français.
